If you MOD Starfield you MUST MUST MUST do this (BELIEVE IT)
Prevent Starfield Updates and Keep Your Modded Game Intact
You are about to play Starfield, and you can't. Another unexpected update has interfered with your modded game. Now, if you don't want to play the vanilla game (and who wants to do that?), you have to patiently wait until Starfield Script Extender, and a few other mods, are updated to allow the use of your mods once again.
What to do?
There are TWO things that must be done, to ensure that Starfield will not update without your explicit permission. This will give you ample time to wait for any necessary mod updates before continuing to play the game with the new update.
Here's a summary of the steps to prevent Starfield from updating:
Method 1: Disable automatic updates in Steam
Open Steam and go to Library.
Right-click on Starfield and select Properties.
In the Properties window, go to the Updates tab.
Under Automatic Updates, select "Only update this game when I launch it."
Method 2: Make the appmanifest_1716740.acf file read-only
Find your steamapps folder. This is usually located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps.
Locate the appmanifest_1716740.acf file. This file is specific to Starfield.
Right-click on the appmanifest_1716740.acf file and select Properties.
In the Properties window, under the Attributes tab, select the Read-only checkbox.
These are not hard things to do, but they must be done. Otherwise, you are going to have the very unpleasant experience of being locked out of your game with mods enabled. And this unpleasantry must be avoided at all costs.
